Imports, exports up in March

Imports and exports grew as the trade deficit rose to a record high of $46 billion in March, reported the US Department of Commerce today.
The trade deficit rose 9.1 percent from the $42.1 billion February deficit figure.
Imports of goods and services came to a record $140.7 billion in March, representing a 4.6 percent increase from the previous month. Exports totaled a record $94.7 billion, up 2.6 percent from February.
Automobiles and auto parts imports to the US totaled a record $19 billion. March imports of consumer goods totaled a record $31.3 billion. Exports of American cars and auto parts, meanwhile, totaled $7.2 billion in March, also an all-time high.
