Jacksonville has been selected as the host city of Super Bowl XXXIX, and preparations are well underway for next February’s big game. Restaurants, bars, and hotels are getting ready to open their doors to an expected 100,000 visitors during the game weekend, and a regional host committee is recruiting 8,000 volunteers to make sure all those visitors have a positive experience.
The city will get a new nickname as part of its pre-game makeover. Local officials are working with a PR firm, the Dalton Agency, to develop a new slogan for Jacksonville by the end of the summer.
Plans for the Super Bowl halftime show have not been unveiled yet, but state legislators have already made their input known. Members of the Florida House of Representatives passed a unanimous resolution on April 20th, calling for the show to include a musical tribute to World
War II veterans.
