Taser gets military contract

Taser International, Inc., announced today that it has received a $1.8 million order from the US military for its non-lethal conducted energy weapons and accessories.

The contract represents the single largest order in the Scottsdale, AZ-based company’s history.

"We are honored to supply TASER non-lethal conducted energy weapons to our troops deployed around the world," said Tom Smith, President of TASER International, Inc. "We believe that this is a major milestone in the development of a long-term relationship with the United States military.”

TASER’s conducted energy weapons can incapacitate human targets by stunning them with electrical pulses shot from probes. The electrical energy disrupts the body’s nervous system and causes instant and temporary loss of muscle control.

In addition to its flagship product, the ADVANCED TASER M26, the company recently introduced the TASER X26, a smaller, lighter version of the same product.

The military is a new market for these weapons, which are primarily used in the law enforcement, private security and personal defense markets. According to TASER, its products are currently in testing or deployment at over 4,500 law enforcement and correctional agencies in the US and Canada.
