Chip giant Intel Corporation outlines a vision to bring “digital intelligence” to future products.
Intel’s plan is to develop technologies that will be more intuitive, intelligent, and “humanized,” in an effort to deliver products that are easier to use and more helpful.
The company contends that as digital technology becomes more prevalent and enormous amounts of digital content (text, still images, audio and video) proliferate, more natural and people-friendly interfaces such as speech, handwriting, and image recognition for electronics products will be needed.
"Imagine a phone that can translate languages in real time so you can talk to people in other countries more easily, or finding a photo of your children playing with a pet from among the thousands of photos you have stored in multiple computers in your house," says Justin Rattner, Intel senior fellow and director of Intel's Corporate Technology Group.
Intel is currently upgrading its processors to move toward supercomputer-like performance by using multiple processing cores in each processor instead of a single processing core, which is used with today's processors.
