Ford has announced the 2005 model year T-bird will be the last in this iconic line of road prowlers.
There are a select few car models that have truly captured the essence of the American automobile. The Ford Thunderbird easily makes the list, but it seems its time has come and gone, again. After being removed from the market in 1997, the Thunderbird came back in 2001 as a retro-style convertible which quickly garnered critical and consumer acclaim. Ford had planned all along to offer the redesigned T-bird as a limited run model.
"We promised all along that this Thunderbird would have a limited production run, and we're being true to our word," said Steve Lyons, Ford Division President. "Thunderbird was a terrific image builder for the Ford brand showroom at a time when we needed it."
