Late last month, Cooper Tire & Rubber announced the deployment of supply chain management and transportation software from i2 Technologies.
According to Cooper Tire, the software will allow it to optimize its network of physical plant locations.
Based in Findlay, Ohio, Cooper Tire is a supplier of automotive rubber products to consumers and automotive manufacturers. Its implementation of i2’s Supply Chain Strategist is part of an effort to optimize its transportation and logistics systems. “Using i2 Supply Chain Strategist, we were able to do a variety of ‘what-if’ scenarios and quickly identify several redundant facilities where we could consolidate services,” said George McAfee, project manager.
According to i2, Cooper Tire has seen a significant reduction in transportation and logistics costs, along with enhancement of the velocity of customer-order fulfillment, as a result of transportation-related software that manages the inbound movement of goods from plants to the distribution center and outbound from the distribution center to customers. “We believe customer service is a competitive differentiator, and transportation closes the loop on customer service,” said McAfee. “It’s all about making better decisions to deliver more value to our customers while controlling operating costs.”
