A study conducted by Aon Consulting shows that only 50% of manufacturing workers would recommend their organization as one of the best places to work, and 36% are not satisfied that their organization is doing enough to create a stress-free work environment.
These factors add up to a slightly-lower than average score in workforce commitment, according to Aon’s Workforce Commitment Index.
“Opportunities exist for manufacturing organizations to improve the commitment of their workforce. By addressing concerns such as workplace stress and employees’ desire for personal growth opportunities, manufacturing organizations can increase the commitment and productivity of employees,” said Joel Van Haaften, an Aon senior consultant and director of the study.
A significant 31% of survey respondents said they were not satisfied with their management’s communication about internal career opportunities. “Management needs to be more direct in their communication to employees about growth opportunities at the company. Our survey show that employees will pitch in—but they want to know that, down the road, there a chance to grow with the organization,” said Van Haaften.
The telephone survey included 618 randomly selected manufacturing employees. The complete study is available at www.aon.com.
