General Motors announced plans to invest 160 million euros in a Strasbourg, France six-speed transmission plant.
The new facility will produce GM’s new family of six-speed, real-wheel drive automatic transmissions. The investment will include facility renovations, new machinery and tooling. The Strasbourg plant currently produces the 5L40-E and 5L50-E 5-speed rear-wheel-drive automatic transmission for luxury sedans, SUVs, and performance cars.
Marc Schiff, GM Strasbourg’s plant manager, says that the new production will be “in keeping with our mission of providing the world’s best powertrains.” He goes on to say that the Strasbourg team “has a history of producing world-class GM transmissions and [that] this new 6-speed will continue that tradition.”
