Taser International, a maker of advanced non-lethal weapons, today announced the appointment of former Montana Governor Judy Martz to replace Bernard Kerik, who is resigning from the board to focus on his consulting business.
Controversial former New York police commissioner Kerik had withdrawn his name from consideration to head the US Department of Homeland Security in December 2004, due to the fact he had employed a nanny who was an illegal alien, without paying required Social Security payments.
“Governor Martz will bring a unique perspective to our board having been both the CEO of the state of Montana as well as her own small business,” said Phil Smith, chairman of Taser International. “We will miss Bernard Kerik's thoughtful insight into the law enforcement community and input on the board and wish him all the best as he pursues his new business venture.”
Martz was elected as Montana's first female governor in November 2000. For more than 30 years, she has been a co-owner of a commercial solid-waste business in Butte, MT. As a small business owner, she became actively involved in local and statewide economic development issues. The personnel change will take effect on April 1, 2005.
Taser International provides advanced non-lethal devices for use in the law enforcement, military, private security and personal defense markets.
