Changing of guard at Japanese electronics maker’s US unit

Japanese-owned NEC Electronics America today announced the appointment of Yuichi Kawakami as its new president and chief executive officer, as of April 1.

Kawakami will oversee day-to-day operations. He has held a variety of executive management positions in his more than 30 years at NEC Corporation and NEC Electronics, most recently serving as vice president of NEC Electronics’ sales and marketing operations unit.

Kawakami succeeds Toshio Nakajima, president and CEO, who will return to NEC Electronics in Japan to serve as a corporate officer overseeing system business development. Nakajima will also become chairman of the board of directors for NEC Electronics America.

NEC Electronics America, headquartered in Santa Clara, CA, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan-based NEC Electronics, a provider of semiconductor products for the broadband and communications markets; system equipment for the mobile, PC, automotive and digital consumer markets; and platform solutions. NEC Electronics America has a local manufacturing facility in Roseville, CA.
