US/German auto maker DaimlerChrysler has announced a major recall of 1.3 million Mercedes automobiles.
The cars are being called in due to problems with alternators and batteries. New battery control software will be installed on E-class and CLS-class models built between January 2002 and January 2005. Daimler/Chrylser maintains the defect does not affect safety.
This comes as a sharp blow to the company’s German operation which has been plagued by quality issues.
