Computing giant Microsoft and third-largest US PC manufacturer Gateway announced today that they have reached a $150 million settlement of their ongoing legal wranglings.
In the settlement, Microsoft will pay Gateway $150 million over four years, and Gateway will release all antitrust claims against Microsoft based on past conduct. Gateway expects to use the money for marketing initiatives, including advertising, sales training and consulting, as well as the research, development and testing of new Gateway products that can run current Microsoft products and Microsoft's next-generation operating system.
“Gateway continues to enjoy a strong relationship with Microsoft and we're pleased to put these legacy legal issues behind us,” said Wayne Inouye, president and CEO of Gateway.
“Our relationships with PC manufacturers are integral to our success, and we look forward to working even more closely with Gateway to communicate the benefits of its products and our software to consumers,” said Rodrigo Costa, OEM corporate vice president of Microsoft.
