Vantage to China

As the Asia/Pacific region grows in importance as a manufacturing destination for global manufacturers, the potential for IT providers is growing accordingly. All these new factories need IT systems.

Existing small and midsize businesses in Asia/Pacific also offer a substantial growth opportunity for software vendors; in China, for instance, only 20 percent of SMBs use enterprise resource planning (ERP). According to industry analyst Gartner, Inc., the Asia-Pacific ERP market is forecast to grow steadily to reach $531.4 million in 2008.*

In China, business entities are required to register their financial systems with the Finance Bureau before they can officially use a computerized accounting system to replace manual bookkeeping systems. To register their systems, business entities have to conduct a parallel run (manual system and computer system) for at least three months, then prepare and submit a number of reports to the Finance Bureau for approval.

Manufacturers struggling with the implications of implementing ERP at their plants in China should be encouraged by the announcement today that Epicor Software Corporation has now introduced its Epicor® Vantage® 8.0, the industry’s first manufacturing solution based on a 100 percent service-oriented architecture (SOA), into this market in both simplified and traditional Chinese. Vantage 8.0 provides pre-defined report templates that can be easily modified to meet specific requirements, in addition to allowing users to print a number of the reports on standard preprinted forms.

Companies like Connor Manufacturing Services with multiple plants in the United States as well as operations in China, Mexico and Singapore stand to benefit from the new offering. An Epicor customer since 1996, Connor provides precision metal forming, assembly and integrated manufacturing solutions to clients in the heavy trucking, consumer electronics, medical devices, semiconductor and telecommunications industries to name a few. “We are currently running Vantage at three of our North American plants and our Singapore plant, with our Suzhou, China operations soon to be up and running on Vantage as well,” said Mike Lowe, IT manager for Connor Manufacturing Services. “As our business has evolved, Vantage has provided the visibility into our operations to make informed business decisions with the flexibility to adapt to change.”
