Motorola grabs new VP from Big Blue

Motorola today announced that IBM executive Stuart Reed has been named its new senior vice president of Motorola’s global supply chain organization.

Reed worked at IBM since 1983, most recently as one of the key executives in the company’s supply chain organization, where he served as IBM's vice president of worldwide manufacturing. Reed will report directly to Ed Zander, Motorola’s chairman and CEO.

“The success of our seamless mobility vision depends on our ability to build a Motorola that is seamless inside. More than any other change in recent years, transforming our supply chain into a single, integrated function will help us operate as a unified, global technology leader,” said Zander.

Motorola’s supply chain organization includes its global manufacturing facilities, customer fulfillment centers and strategic sourcing operations.

Reed previously served as vice president of IBM strategy, process and systems, where he developed the original strategy in support of IBM’s integrated supply chain organization, as well as the various value chains within IBM.

Motorola provides mobile communication products across broadband, embedded systems and wireless networks. The company had sales of $31.3 billion in 2004.
