Struggling against falling sales figures, General Motors, the world’s largest automaker, announced today that it will offer the same discount it gives to its employees to all buyers of a new GM car or truck in the next month.
The offer extends to sales of all 2005 GM vehicles except the Chevrolet Corvette model and GMC medium-duty trucks, and will run from June 1 to July 5. The offer could potentially result in a discount $7,000 or $8,000 off the standard retail price.
GM is likely hoping that the discount will help turn things around. The company reported a $1.1 billion loss in the first quarter of this year, and May vehicles sales dropped 5.4 percent from the same period a year ago.
