Multimillion-dollar infant product manufacturer Infantino, in cooperation with retailer Wal-Mart, is recalling one of its infant play mats that have caused reported injuries to two babies, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced.
The recalled Baby Connection Fun Frog Soft Gym is comprised of a multi-colored, frog-shaped padded fabric mat, from which blue and orange support arms extend. The support arms consist of thin steel wire covered by foam and fabric. A cap on the wire supports inside the gym’s upright arms can detach, allowing the wire to poke through the fabric. This poses a laceration and puncture hazard to babies, said the commission.
Wal-Mart received four reports of incidents involving the support wire poking through the gym’s fabric arms. Of the four incidents reported, two involved babies being scratched by the exposed wire. Wal-Mart stores nationwide sold the item from October 2004 through May 2005. Consumers have been urged to return the recalled gyms to Wal-Mart stores to receive a refund.
Headquartered in San Diego, CA, Infantino is a privately held, multimillion-dollar manufacturer and international distributor of infant and toddler products such as soft carriers, shopping cart covers, baby supports, puzzles, and activity toys.
