Alcoa inks deal with Airbus

Aluminum giant Alcoa has announced an agreement with Airbus to supply the aircraft maker with sheet and plate products.

Many high-profile deals are coming out of this year’s Paris Air Show, including this recent announcement by Alcoa. The long-term agreement, valued at approximately $2 billion, calls for Alcoa to supply Airbus with high-performance sheet and plate metallics

for the aircraft maker’s A380F cargo and A350 passenger planes.

"This extension to the partnership between Airbus and Alcoa utilizes elements of our 20-20 initiative to reduce the weight and cost of advanced aerospace metallics," said William Christopher, Alcoa executive vice president and group president of Alcoa Aerospace, Automotive and Commercial Transportation. "Our work together with customers to develop solutions that meet or exceed mission weight and performance requirements is paying dividends for all of our partners."

Alcoa is a leading producer and manager of primary aluminum, fabricated aluminum, and alumina facilities, serving the aerospace, automotive, packaging, building and construction, commercial transportation, and industrial markets.
