McKesson Corp. has announced an agreement to buy D&K Healthcare Resources Inc. for $207 million in cash.
With this acquisition, McKesson, already the nation's largest distributor of prescription drugs, will now be able to extend its reach in the Midwest and South. The deal also gives McKesson a bit more market clout in its ongoing battle with the nation's two other major pharmaceutical distributors, AmerisourceBergen Corp. and Cardinal Health Inc. D&K supplies about 3,300 pharmacies, mostly small or regional operations in the Midwest and South. McKesson will be assuming the outstanding debt of D&K.
McKesson hasn't determined if any jobs will be eliminated after the takeover. D&K employs some 760 people.
