U.S. Steel taps Thompson

U.S. Steel today announced the appointment of George H. Thompson to the position of general manager of service centers for electrical, agricultural, and industrial equipment—including manufacturing equipment.

Thompson will be responsible for marketing and sales to U.S. Steel’s service center for electrical, agricultural, and industrial equipment customers. Thompson will report to Joseph R. Scherrbaum, vice president of sales, and will be based in the company’s Chicago-area sales office.

Thompson began in 1987 as a management associate in the tubular products division at U.S. Steel’s Pittsburgh, PA, headquarters, and was promoted to supervisor of business planning at the Fairfield Works Pipe Mill the next year. From 1989 to 1999, he progressed through several increasingly responsible managerial positions in sales and marketing for tubular and sheet products. From 1999 to 2003, Thompson oversaw the company's sales to appliance customers, and most recently served as director of sales of tubular products.
