Manufacturing levels in the Midwest fell slightly to 58.2 in June from 60.8 in May, according to the Chicago-based National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM) regional manufacturing index.
Despite the recent decline, the NAPM manufacturing index maintains its five-month trend above 50, indicating an expanding economy. Although consumer spending is weak, business spending and production are strong, and economists believe it can support long-term economic recovery.
