Robots to invade Wisconsin

KUKA Robotics, a leading global manufacturer of industrial robots, today announced it will hold the grand opening of its Fox Valley Technical College facility in Appleton, WI, on October 21.

The facility will be dedicated by the Board of Fox Valley Technical College Wisconsin, political representatives, and Bernd Liepert, CEO of German parent company KUKA Roboter. The next day, KUKA’s facility will be open to the public and will feature live demonstrations showcasing robotic solutions for a variety of applications including packaging, milling/grinding, and welding. This will be the company’s second training center in the United States, with the other being located at KUKA Robotics’ US headquarters in Clinton Township, MI.

“The Appleton location is ideal as it is centrally located near many KUKA end-users and system partner facilities, and is in the industrial heartland of the US,” said Bernard Sagan, vice president of sales for KUKA Robotics.

The 10,000-square-foot training center will utilize KUKA robots and software to teach 27 different programming, application and maintenance classes to KUKA Robotics‚ customers from across the US. Courses will be offered in robot programming, servicing, and cell design. Graduates' skills will be verified and documented by means of a final examination in each area, leading to a diploma as a KUKA Certified Robot Professional in one of the three technical fields: Robot Technician, Robot Programmer, or Robot Administrator.

KUKA Robotics has an annual production volume approaching 10,000 units, and an installed base of over 60,000 units. KUKA’s robots are utilized in a diverse range of industries including the appliance, automotive, aerospace, consumer goods, logistics, food, pharmaceutical, medical, foundry and plastics industries, and in multiple applications including material handling, machine loading, assembly, packaging, palletizing, welding, bending, joining, and surface finishing.
