FKI Logistex, a global leader in integrated material handling solutions, has won a $40 million contract to supply the baggage handling system for the new Shanghai Pudong International Airport Terminal 2 in China.
The FKI Logistex system, scheduled for completion in 2007, is designed to meet the growing passenger volume expected to travel through Pudong's Terminal 2, estimated at 22 million in 2010 and 40 million in 2015. "After recent contract wins for the baggage handling systems in the Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Sydney, Australia airports, the Shanghai win affirms FKI Logistex as the preferred baggage handling supplier for the world's leading international airports," says Erik Hoffmann-Petersen, director, airport systems, FKI Logistex Europe. "Shanghai Pudong's new FKI Logistex baggage handling system will set the standard for reliability and efficiency for airports across Asia."
The new baggage handling system at Pudong Airport uses state-of-the-art baggage sorting technology, featuring three FKI Logistex S-3000E tilt-tray sorters, one for domestic travel and two for international, each directed by bag tag barcode information.
