Raytheon hires former US Navy fleet commander

Military contractor Raytheon has appointed retired US Navy Admiral Walter F. Doran to the position of Navy Service Executive.

He will report to Thomas M. Culligan, executive vice president of corporate business development and chief executive officer of Raytheon International.

In his new position, Doran will help Raytheon identify Navy strategic contract growth opportunities. He will also serve as the company’s internal US Navy subject matter expert, explaining the Navy’s goals, and will form a direct link to Raytheon’s businesses.

Prior to joining Raytheon, Doran commanded the US Pacific Fleet, the world’s largest combined fleet command, with more than 180 ships, 1,400 aircraft, and 150,000 sailors, Marines and civilians. He also served as assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; commanded the US Seventh Fleet, based in Japan; and was deputy commander of US Southern Command.

Raytheon had 2004 sales of $20.2 billion and employs 80,000 people worldwide.
