Kaiser Aluminum announced the signing of a new long-term agreement with Airbus to supply heavy-gauge aluminum plate for use in the production of their aircraft. The multi-year agreement will significantly increase the amount of Kaiser Aluminum’s fabricated products produced at Kaiser’s Trentwood, WA-based rolling mill to be used by Airbus.

US electric-motor manufacturer A.O. Smith has reached an agreement to acquire Yueyang Zhongmin Special Electrical Machinery, a Chinese motor maker. Yueyang Zhongmin manufactures motors used in commercial air conditioning and refrigeration compressors, and has forecasted 2005 sales of approximately $15 million.

Belden CDT, a manufacturer of electronic cable and connectivity products, announced the resignation of Richard K. Reece, its vice president of finance and chief financial officer. Reece has accepted a position with Acuity Brands. Belden has appointed Stephen H. Johnson, Belden’s treasurer, to the role of interim CFO.

Boeing established a new world record for distance traveled nonstop by a commercial airplane when a Boeing 777-200LR Worldliner landed at London’s Heathrow Airport. The 777-200LR flew 11,664 nautical miles during its 22-hour, 42-minute flight that left Hong Kong. The distance set by the 777-200LR is farther than any previous commercial jetliner has flown.
