After a failed attempt to delay upcoming EPA clean-air regulations, Caterpillar, Inc. has asked a federal appellate court to overturn the EPS’s certification of rival Cummins, Inc.’s diesel truck engine.
Cummins is the only enginemaker whose new engine design has received clearance for the strict emissions standards scheduled to take effect October 1, although other vendors have said they plan to meet the deadline. Caterpillar is developing a next-generation engine format that would give the company a competitive edge but faces fines because the engines will not be certified by the October deadline.
