Crown CEO appointed to President’s Export Council

James F. Dicke II, chairman and CEO of electric lift truck manufacturer Crown Equipment Corporation, has been appointed as a private-sector member to President Bush’s Export Council.

Announcing the appointment, Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez, said business leaders like Mr. Dicke are one of the best resources for identifying trade barriers and opportunities for US exports, as well as helping to promote the president’s trade policy.

The President’s Export Council was formed in the early 1970s to advise the president through the Secretary of Commerce and to encourage US companies to increase exports and enter new markets. The private-sector members of the Council serve at the pleasure of the president with no set term of office. Other companies represented on the Council include Boeing, UPS, Merck, Eastman Chemical, Exxon Mobil, General Motors and Cargill. The Council also includes five United States Senators and five members of the House of Representatives.

Crown was founded in 1945 by the Dicke family. Still privately held, the company owns and operates nine manufacturing facilities in the United States, Australia, Germany and Mexico, and is expanding into China.
