Bridgestone plans new tire factory in North Carolina

Bridgestone Aircraft Tire (USA) Inc is to transfer manufacturing operations from Miami, FL, to a new facility in North Carolina, in which it will invest $13.5 million over the next three years.

The company will manufacture tires for commercial jets at a new 160,000-square-foot building in Mayodan, NC. "This area of North Carolina fits well with our site search criteria, offering advantages in both a readily available workforce and proximity to major customers,” said Joe Rayna, Bridgestone Aircraft Tire's president and CEO.

“North Carolina ranks among the top three in the nation for tire manufacturing jobs,” said North Carolina Governor Mike Easley. “Bridgestone Aircraft Tire’s decision to move its operation facility to North Carolina further enhances our reputation as a leader in this industry.” Bridgestone received a grant of $200,000 from the One North Carolina Fund, which assists the state in industry recruitment and expansion by providing financial assistance through local governments to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state.
