Philadelphia index lowest in 2002

The Philadelphia Federal index, a regional growth gauge for manufacturing conditions, fell to 6.6 in July, down from 22.2 in June.
The index is at the lowest level in 2002. According to federal economists, manufacturing in the region and the growth pace for the economy has slowed down. As a result, demand for labor has declined.
