Boeing, the world’s leading manufacturer of passenger and cargo planes, released its 2002 Current Market Outlook (CMO) that projected a $4.9 trillion market for new commercial planes and aviation services over the next 20 years.
The CMO report, regarded as the most comprehensive and trusted report in the industry, evaluates the competitive aspects and the future of the commercial aviation sector.
“The shift from a regulated to liberalized market has increased competition among airlines and is forcing them to operate at much higher levels of efficiency to remain profitable,” stated Randy Baseler, Boeing’s commercial airplane VP of marketing.
Boeing expects the worldwide fleet to double by 2021 to 33,000 jets. The figure includes 17,200 new planes to be manufactured, 6,700 airplanes to be replaced, and the current 8,500 already flying.
