Inbound Freight Solution Will Dramatically Reduce Costs

Tilion, Inc. recently announced a Web-based logistics solution, Solutions for Inbound Freight, that uses data collected from existing enterprise systems through-out the supply chain to provide greater control over inbound shipments.

"Inbound freight is one of the more challenging parts of logistics management," says Dy Yossi Sheffi, professor of engineering systems at MIT and co-director of MIT's Center for Transportation Studies. "The inherent difficulties in managing a process that originates elsewhere means that by getting the right visibilty into the process, companies will be able to manage inbound movements better and achieve significant process efficiencies."

Maynard, Mass-based Tilion predicts that users of the service will be able to reduce their premium freight costs by 30 per cent and total inbound freight costs by 15 per cent in just 90 days. The service reconciles documents, including purchase orders, ship notices, and carrier status, to generate a real-time picture of inbound shipments. When expedited shipments are scheduled or a non-preferred carrier is selected, the Tilion service notifies the logistics manager so that corrective action can be taken.
