Kronos to spearhead Workforce Institute

Workforce IT provider Kronos Inc. has announced that it will create a Workforce Institute, with a mission to provide research and education on critical workplace issues facing organizations around the globe. This announcement was made from KronosWorks, the company’s user group meeting, in Orlando.

As experts in managing the workforce, it’s really important for us to keep our finger on the pulse of the industry, to be able to meet their needs most effectively,” Stuart Itkin, chief marketing officer at Kronos, told The Manufacturer. “The Institute is a real fortification of that commitment.” Itkin sees Kronos as uniquely positioned to empower organizations on the one hand, while also providing a voice for employees.

First on the Institute’s agenda is the skills gap. “The ability to manage recruit and retain people increasingly critical,” says Itkin, “But only a small part of organizations truly understand this.”

Also in the charter is crisis management. Kronos conducted a poll at its user con, to find that only 57 percent of companies have a crisis management plan, and 44 percent have not communicated to employees what to do if a crisis occurs. In the case of Hurricane Katrina, says Itkin, “The very people they intended to help in these emergencies were affected when their houses were flooded,” hence, the plans fell apart, and the need for new approaches.

Kronos aims to gather an advisory board of academics, innovators, practitioners, and visionaries for the Workforce Institue. “We’ve had a number of people who’ve approached us who are interested in participating, as well as people we’ve approached. We want a group of people who’s interested and capable of bringing value, people committed to this area of focus. The workforce is an issue that’s increasingly important to organizations,” but one for which organizations frequently undervalue the importance, or their control. “That’s why we feel the time is right to bring the visionaries together.”
