Oracle is now servicing Red Hat software installations, for less than half what Red Hat itself charges - interesting, as Oracle does not own Red Hat, but that appears to be the point.
The Wall Street Journal and Analyst community speculate that this is a none-too-subtle ploy by Oracle CEO Larry Ellison to acquire a Linux provider. If Red Hat stock plunges, Oracle could gobble the company on the cheap, perhaps $12 per share, and Oracle would be spared creating its own Linux practice.
Begs the question - was a partnership completely out of the question?
