According to a WSJ story, the The US Air Force is finalizing the bidding process to replace its of its Cold War-era fleet of aerial-refueling tankers.
Analysts believe The Pentagon is lining up Boeing against a rival coalition of Northrop Grumman and European Aeronautic Defence and Space (EADS, the Airbus parent) for the initial $40 billion contract. Boeing previously had a deal to lease 100 767s to the USAF, which collapsed in corruption allegations and under pressure from Sen. John McCain. The companies have until April 2 to submit a proposal or withdraw from the bidding.
