Northrop Grumman’s proposed purchase of TRW for $7.8 billion appears it will win regulatory clearance support, a senior Pentagon official said Thursday.
TRW is a well-known manufacturer of space and defense products, including spacecraft and satellites, defense communications equipment, and high-energy lasers,
US undersecretary of defense in charge of acquisitions, Edward Aldridge, claimed the deal posed no difficulties that would prompt regulators to block it. In addition, he said the Pentagon was consulting European Union competition officials about the deal.
With the acquisition, Northrop Grumman would become the second largest defense contractor in the country by adding significant strength to its satellite systems, missile systems, and systems integration capabilities. Northrop Grumman forecasts improved sales of $26 to $27 billion for 2003.
