President Bush addressed the American people in an economic forum held in Waco, Texas this week to say that the key to a strong economic resurgence is consumer confidence, aggressive trade expansion, and accessible, affordable credit for healthy companies.
“The foundations of the American economy are strong. Yet, the only purpose of a strong foundation is to build on it,” Bush said. “And that's what we're discussing today. And we're determined, this administration is determined to build on the long-term security of the American people.”
“The key to restoring stronger growth is first to understand that the economy is in much better shape than most people realize,” stated Jerry Jasinowski, president of the National Association of Manufacturers. “The negatives of high interest, escalating energy prices, and excessive capacity have abated, and we now see inventories being rebuilt, industrial production rising, profits stabilizing, and the first signs of new capital expenditures. The glass is half full and with strong business leadership, economic growth will gradually strengthen through the remainder of the year.”
