FOXBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, USA - March 8, 2007 - Kudos to Invensys Process Systems, which has won an automation contract from Aker Kvaerner, Inc., a subsidiary of Aker Kvaerner ASA, that includes Foxboro distributed control systems (DCS), Triconex safety systems and fire & gas systems, and Foxboro instrumentation.
Aker Kvaerner is the prime EPC responsible for engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning for a new LNG receipt terminal being built near the Gulf Coast of Louisiana. The new terminal is designed to deliver 1.5 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of natural gas per day from imported liquefied natural gas, with planned site expansion to 2.65 Bcf per day. The project is anticipated to commence commercial operation in late 2008.
The Invensys contract covers process and safety systems for all storage and regasification processes, as well as remote control centers for marine unloading operations at the docks. Invensys will provide an integrated control system solution consisting of Foxboro I/A Series mesh-network-based distributed control systems (DCS), Triconex high-integrity pressure protection systems (HIPPS) and Fire & Gas systems, and field instrumentation, in a control infrastructure covering approximately 8,300 I/O points. Invensys will also implement SimSci-Esscor Operator Training Simulator (OTS) solutions for the LNG terminal's processes for use in optimizing plant design and operator training.
Invensys Process Systems, through its global centers of LNG excellence, will provide a range of hardware and software integration, configuration and engineering services, as well as on-site assistance with installation, commissioning, start-up and technical training.
Significant factors in the award were deep Invensys experience in LNG, along with Invensys technical leadership. Foxboro DCS, Triconex safety instrumented systems and SimSci-Esscor simulation solutions are used at dozens of LNG plants and terminals around the world. Utilizing global resources, Invensys project teams have brought together business consulting, system integration, automation control solutions, and project management for LNG companies worldwide.
