An Agence France-Presse story declares that "ocean-going vessels now belch out more of the major air pollutant sulfur dioxide than all of the world's cars, trucks and bues combined."
AFP was quiting a report by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), which also concluded that shippers emit more of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide than many industrialized nations.
ICCT said the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has been "slow to take advantage of the best available technologies and fuels," compared to automakers and industry as a whole.
