Raytheon wins $1B NPOESS contract

Raytheon won a $1 billion contract to provide polar-orbiting remote sensing capabilities and to combine existing government satellite programs for the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS)’s prime contractor TRW.

NPOESS combines and monitors the meteorological and earth observation functions of the NOAA, Department of Defense, and NASA.

Raytheon will provide the command, control, and communications segment and the interface data processing segment (IDPS) for the NPOESS. The IDPS will deliver large amounts of data to produce weather analyses and information products in support of forecasting, research, and tactical users.

“NPOESS is a tremendous victory for Raytheon,” said Ray Kolibab, vice president and site executive of Raytheon’s Aurora, Colorado business campus. “Using the vast resources and talent across multiple Raytheon locations, we will deliver an integrated team effort to bring the best capabilities and technology to support our government customer and TRW,” he added.
