Ford to open new parts distribution center

Ford Motor Company announced plans to open a new parts distribution center in July 2003 to deliver vehicle service and repair parts to dealers faster and more efficiently. The 225,000 square-foot high-velocity center will be located in Mebane, North Carolina.

“At Ford Motor Company, we are absolutely committed to superior customer satisfaction. And we’re not just talking about it, we’re taking action,” said Don Johnson, director of Global Parts Supply and Logistics for the Ford Customer Service Division.

Ford announced last year that it planned to increase the number of parts distribution centers from 10 to 21 nationwide, creating a web of specialized parts hubs to further shorten delivery time of parts from once a week to once a day.

“There’s no question that this new network will provide the most efficient and cost-effective parts delivery to our dealers throughout the country,” Johnson continued. “In fact, for the new facilities that recently opened in Memphis and Sacramento, dealer order-to-delivery time has improved 80%, and we’ve already seen a significant increase in customer satisfaction.”
