Spectrum Astro selected by NASA to build GLAST

NASA has awarded Spectrum Astro with a $107 million contract to design and construct a 9,000 lb. spacecraft for the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) Observatory.

. GLAST is a premier space-science experiment that will combine astronomy and particle physics in the study of black hole particle jets and other high-energy phenomena. The spacecraft is set for a 2006 launch into low-earth orbit.

“We are extremely pleased to be selected by NASA Goddard to perform this very important space-science mission,” said W. David Thompson, president and CEO of Spectrum Astro. “This larger spacecraft takes Spectrum Astro to a new level of national space observatory participation.”

Spectrum Astro will also be responsible for the integration of scientific instruments and the integration of the Observatory with the launch vehicle. Spectrum Astro is a high-performance satellite and space-based satellite system manufacturer.
