Luxury meets athleticism, as French retailer PPR makes a $7.1 billion bid to marry Puma to PPR's Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent fashion brands.
PPR will buy a 27 percent stake in Puma and make an offer for the rest of the company.
Herzogenaurach-based Puma claims to welcome the offer, and will recommend it to shareholders. Puma is a premier provider to the National Basketball Association, but, has been attempting to upgrade its product lines into shoes, eyeglasses and apparel, and in fact launched a footwear collection with Alexander McQueen, part of the PPR group.
