Oak Brook, IL--DC managers can see how their operations measure up to industry norms, to top performers, and to companies across North America in DC Measures 2007, the new research report published by the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC).
Nearly 1100 WERC members and DC Velocity magazine readers were surveyed to identify common benchmarks for critical activities in the distribution center, as well as recognize baseline and best practice performance.
The fourth in an annual series, the 2007 study captures 45 key operational metrics. The measures have been grouped into five balanced sets (customer, operational, financial, capacity/quality and employee), plus two sets related to perfect order and cash-to-cash cycle measurement. Results are divided into quintiles, and identified as “Best in Class”--the top 20%--to “Major Opportunity” at the opposite end. Median scores for each metric are also included.
“The report allows distribution managers to evaluate performance using unbiased data from companies across a variety of industries, type of DC, company size, customers served and business strategy, and to compare with similar organizations as well as across the board,” said Robert L. Shaunnessey, WERC’s executive director. “It also illustrates how the playing field is shifting as companies’ priorities and standards of performance evolve. That can be critical information from the customer, supplier and internal points of view.”
DC Measures 2007 was authored by Karl B. Manrodt, PhD, associate professor at Georgia Southern University, and Kate L. Vitasek, managing partner of Supply Chain Visions.
The complete report is available from WERC at www.WERC.org. DC Measures 2007 is free to WERC members and available for purchase for $60.
