Lincoln industries rewards wellness with 14,000-ft day out of the office

LINCOLN, Neb. – It's not often that a thriving manufacturing company rewards 84 of its people with an all-expense paid Colorado mountain climbing expedition that includes a paid day off, transportation expenses and lodging.

At Lincoln Industries it happens every year, and this year, more than 17 percent of Lincoln Industries' people qualified for the climb. Scheduled for July 14, the climb on Mt. Quandary, a 14,000 foot mountain outside of Breckenridge, Colorado, will be led by Lincoln Industries' CEO, Marc LeBaron.

"We take wellness and safety seriously at Lincoln Industries. Our company invests heavily in wellness. However, we felt that we could take wellness to the next step by providing our people a great incentive for regularly participating in our wellness offerings," said LeBaron.

Lincoln Industries is a manufacturing company that provides a wide variety of services to national customers including Harley Davidson and many others. In order to qualify for the trip, climbers must participate in 75 percent of the wellness programs offered by the company. These programs include quarterly 'mini physicals', physical activity challenges such as the 'Mark Your Miles' program that includes free pedometers for all participants, personal wellness profile assessments, health culture audits, wellbucks, a cash incentive for participation in certain programs, health education seminars and many others.

Those who achieve the expected level of participation are welcomed into the platinum level of personal wellness and rewarded with a climb to the top of Mt. Quandry. With company president Hank Orme being the oldest participant at 63-years-old and the youngest, 20-year-old Jesse Wenzel, the go!

Platinum climb truly bridges the generational gap.

"Our climbs are always challenging, however we can think of no greater reward than offering our people the opportunity to climb in the Colorado mountains," said Tonya Vyhlidal, wellness manager for Lincoln Industries. "We're successful because we are a company where people care for each other. Each trip, there are examples of people watching out for one another, putting other's success ahead of their own. We all know the mission and everyone knows we are all in this together. It's teamwork in action."

The team will depart for Mt. Quandry on Friday, July 13 at 7 a.m., begin the climb at 4 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, returning to Lincoln, Neb., Sunday afternoon. Participants receive a mountain climbing training program schedule for reference and reimbursement for eight hours of work for Friday.
