Bombardier joins greener aircraft wing scheme

Bombardier Aerospace in Belfast has invested almost £9 million (including government support) in a research and development scheme aiming to make aircraft more environmentally friendly.

The £103 million scheme is focused on the design of new composite wing technologies, and Bombardier has announced it will be looking into reducing the weight and aerodynamic drag of aircraft wings.

“Participation in this programme will help us to further enhance our skills and capabilities in the design and manufacture of large composite structures, particularly wings, thereby helping us to compete successfully in the international market place,” said Michael Ryan, general manager for Bombardier Aerospace Belfast.
