GE looking to sell appliances business?

Suggestions have come to light that General Electric (GE) may be looking to sell off its appliances unit.
The Wall Street Journal reports that GE has hired Goldman Sachs to carry out an auction of the business, and that the sale could fetch between $5 billion and $8 billion.
GE has not commented on the subject.
