Metaldyne joins auto supplier fly-in

Doug Grimm, vice president of Metaldyne, announced he will join other automotive supplier representatives in the October 1st fly-in to Washington to urge the modification and elimination of steel tariffs imposed by the Bush administration.

Metaldyne sources 98% of its steel domestically, but since the tariffs were imposed, it has considered sourcing steel from exempt countries like Brazil, Argentina, and Turkey.

“It would be a shame if the steel safeguard program forces Metaldyne to source steel and other steel-based components from overseas,” Grimm said. “In the end, the jobs of US-based steel workers may be saved at the expense of workers in the US auto supply business.”

The fly-in is being sponsored by the Motor Equipment Manufacturers Association and the Original Equipment Suppliers Association. Representatives from Arvin Meritor, Delphi, Dana, Eaton, Textron, and TRW will also participate in the fly-in.
