Auto conference proceeds to benefit education

Approximately $700,000 worth of proceeds from Convergence 2000 will be donated to the Convergence Education Foundation, an initiative to increase the number of grade school students who choose science or math as a lifelong career.

The automotive electronics conference, held in late October, drew over 8,000 participants to Detroit’s Cobo Center. Bernard Robertson, senior vice president of DaimlerChrysler, chaired the conference. “Despite less than favorable economic conditions, thousands came to hear many key industry executives explain how strong business strategies and profitability are paramount to the future of automotive electronics,” he said.

Recent predictions from industry experts are that the value of electronic systems could grow from an average of 30% of vehicle content today to as much as 40% by 2010.
