TRW’s Aqua spacecraft gains recognition

Popular Science magazine has named TRW’s Aqua spacecraft, NASA’s second earth observing system satellite, as one of this year’s best innovations in aviation and space technology.

Selected from hundreds of new products, the Aqua spacecraft has been recognized for its contribution to the research of the global water cycle. The aircraft is designed to collect and provide a range of environmental data, including global maps of fine aerosols, improved short-term weather prediction, and images of increased sea ice cover in the Antarctic.

“This award is a tribute to the vision, engineering talents, and dedication to mission successes of the Aqua team, including NASA, TRW, and the science community,” said Tim Hannemann, TRW’s president and CEO. “The data that Aqua is delivering daily is playing a major role in advancing our understanding of clouds, water, ice, and snow in the global climate.”
