US manufacturing in need of kick-start

Manufacturing output increased a slight 0.1% in November, following October’s revised drop of 0.6% and September’s flat-line performance, the Federal Reserve reported, and experts say manufacturing is in need of a kick-start.

“Outside of motor vehicles and parts, which soared 3.9% last month, overall manufacturing output declined by 0.3% in November following an identical fall in September,” said David Huether, chief economist of the National Association of Manufacturers. “The lack of business investment in equipment is the brake holding back a manufacturing recovery.”
