The Boeing Company received its largest order this year from Taiwan-based China Airlines for 10 747-400 jets, a deal worth approximately $2 billion at list prices.
The order for six 747-400 passenger jets and four 747-400 Freighters will be added to China Airlines’ current fleet of 38 Boeing jetliners.
“The 747 has greatly contributed to the expansion of China Airlines’ services to its passengers and cargo customers,” said Phillip Wei, president of China Airlines. “With the 747-400’s proven performance and continued excellence, not only will our passengers experience an even more enjoyable and comfortable flight, but our cargo operation can expand while maintaining efficiency, fleet’s simplification, and competitiveness.”
During 2002, a bleak year for the airline industry, Boeing received 221 new orders, with 47 orders cancelled or changed. The previous year, the company had 328 new orders, and in 2000, it had 605.
